Considering adopting a dog for life?
Rehoming a dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences for you, and your family.
It is important to consider your lifestyle, how a dog will fit into your everyday family life, and how much time you are able to commit to your new canine family member.
Dogs are like fingerprints – each one is very different. You will need to think about how much time you have for walking the dog, playing with and training it, how long your dog might be left, and whether you have other pets or young children in your household to consider.
Different dogs and breeds have varying needs and personalities, and this is something to bear in mind to help you find your ideal dog. The volunteers at Bansko Street Dogs are happy to help you decide which dog might be most suitable for your circumstances.
Once you have decided to open up your home to a dog the process is as follows:
Contact us
First of all please contact us, so that we can discuss your circumstances and get a feel for what may be right for you
Meet and greet
If you are in Bansko, we like to arrange for any resident dogs and your family members to come along to meet us and see your potential new dog. This ensures you are all happy in each other’s company.
Homecheck
We will arrange for a volunteer to come and visit you and your family at home. We have a network of volunteers who complete homechecks for us. This ensures the best environment for your dog, that you have a secure place to house the dog, and they will also to check for any other hazards.
Home time!
This is the exciting bit… you can now collect your dog and the start of your beautiful friendship can begin! You will need to sign our fostering or adoption agreement, as is relevant to you. This is to ensure the dog receives the high level of care it deserves, for however long you are together.
Follow up
We want to make sure that you and the dog are settling well, and so we will follow up with a visit to ensure that things are all going well for you all where possible. Any problems, questions or concerns can be dealt with, although you can contact us at any time if you do have any questions regarding your new arrival.
All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, neutered (or an agreement signed to ensure the dog will be neutered, as applicable), and have pet passports to keep track of their health status and treatments.
